KUALA LUMPUR, 14 OCTOBER 2021 – The Government has re-appointed Dato' Seri Mohd Hishamudin Yunus as Chairman of Malaysia Competition Commission for a further term of three years, from Oct. 1, 2021 until Sept. 30, 2024.

Dato' Seri Mohd Hishamudin previously served as a Judge of Malaysia’s Court of Appeal. Prior to his elevation to the Bench in 1992, he was in the Judicial and Legal Service serving as Magistrate, Deputy Public Prosecutor, State Legal Adviser of Selangor, Deputy Parliamentary Draftsman and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court.

Dato’ Seri Hishamudin Yunus read law at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) where he obtained his Bachelor and Master’s degree; and was called to the English Bar by the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn.

For the past three years, the Commission headed by Dato’ Seri Hishamudin Yunus as Chairman was responsible for various MyCC's decisions; which includes the 7 tuition and daycare centres, General Insurance Association of Malaysia (PIAM) and its 22 members, Dagang Net Technologies Sdn Bhd, 7 warehouse operators in Port Klang and several others.

He was also involved in several MyCC's projects, such as the amendment of the Competition Act 2010, and is currently overseeing the appeal by AirAsia Bhd and Malaysian Airline System Bhd (MAS), Grab Holdings Inc., MyEG Services Berhad (MyEG), and PIAM and its members.

I will do my best to guide MyCC carry out its functions with honesty, integrity and efficiency; and to ensure the completion of the task of amending the Competition Act 2010 so that the Commission is vested with the powers to regulate mergers and acquisitions." said Dato' Seri Mohd Hishamudin.

Simultaneously, the Government has also extended the term for the Member of the Commission of the MyCC, Dato' Ir. Hj. Mohd Jamal Bin Sulaiman effective from 1 October 2021 for another three years. During his tenure at the MyCC, he has contributed to many of the MyCC's projects; including overseeing the publications of the Market Review in the Selected Transportation Sectors and the Market Review for Service Sector (Wholesale and Retail for Selected Products). Dato' Ir. Hj. Mohd Jamal was a former Senior Director of General of Works in the Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR).
