KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has made a fair oper to the opposition in order to break the political deadlock faced by the country, Bersatu youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal said following the latter's appeal for bi-partisan support.
Wan Fahysal said the ball is now in the opposition's court with the bloc having to choose between continuing to destabilise the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government or joining hands to fight the COVID-19 pandemic which continues to ravage the country's lives and livelihoods.
"The current situation which is so severe that it threatens the health and lives of the people will only get worse if a new political dispute once again plunges the country into an endless constitutional crisis.
"This offer is thoroughly comprehensive, inclusive, fair and equitable to all parties, meets the current needs of the country, solves the country's structural problems that need immediate improvement, and puts the people as the only priority.
"If that becomes a reality, there will no longer be the title of government or opposition MP. All Honorable members will be 'WAKIL RAKYAT' in the true sense of the term regardless of ideological affiliation or party membership," he said.
Wan Fahysal also warned that several promised reforms including UNDI 18, various parliamentary reforms and an effective democratic check and balance would be derailed should the opposition ress its plan to seize power.
He added that failing to get bi-partisan cooperation would not only leave the country in shambles and unable to fend off the pandemic and its effects on the country but that the "kleptocrats" would return to power should PN fall.
In a national address on Friday, Muhyiddin explained the reasons behind his attempt to reach bipartisan agreement for the opposition to back him in a motion of confidence in Parliament.
This was an obvious refrence to former PM Najib Razak and members of his administration which was voted out in the 2018 general elections.

Malaysia has been paralysed in recent months in part to opposition efforts at unseating the prime minister, with his critics claiming he no longer commands the support of a majority of members of parliament.
This despite a confidence vote scheduled to take place next month which will see Muhyiddin put to the test.
Meanwhile the country saw another 21,468 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the national total to 1,363,683 while nother 277 more deaths were reported, bringing the country's COVID-19 death toll to 11,968.
There are some 241,187 active cases, 1,075 are being held in intensive care and 537 of those are in need of assisted breathing.
