RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil: The decades-old unilateral world order led by the United States resulted in spreading chaos, turmoil, and violence in the Global South. The United States used its hegemonic power to unleash destruction and violence in different regions of the world.

Many developing and underdeveloped countries faced the wrath of the US power due to their non-compliance, leading to the deaths of scores of people. The US is one of the largest perpetrators and accomplices in Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza.

NATO forces, led by the US, have also killed hundreds of thousands of people in Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam, and several African countries.

Washington also utilized its economic power to exert pressure on various developing nations to achieve its regional and global strategic and political objectives.

It used its influence over different Western monetary and financial institutions to dictate policies to third-world countries. It also holds a long history of betraying its allies after achieving its regional aspirations.

These moves and events pushed the Global South to look for a more inclusive and egalitarian world order. During this time, the US was busy spreading violence and chaos in the world, while Russia and China silently worked on strengthening their economy and expanding their global diplomatic outreach.

Russia and China: champions of the oppressed

Russia, under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin, emerged as a voice for the oppressed and marginalized nations around the world. President Putin repeatedly raised his voice against the rising Islamophobia globally.

His condemnation of Blasphemous activities increased his popularity throughout the Muslim world. Russia also condemned the illegal occupation of Palestine and the Israeli war crimes in Gaza.

The country has also been supportive of many poor and struggling nations around the world. In November 2024, Moscow also offered its full support to many African states to eliminate terrorism and efforts to boost their economy.

This will not only increase Russia’s diplomatic outreach but will also help African nations thrive economically.

China’s diplomatic influence has also stretched globally. Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has been instrumental in expanding its influence to the whole world. It has also provided significant financial aid to several struggling nations.

In 2022, it forgave loans to 23 loans to 17 African countries, shunning the Western propaganda about the Chinese debt trap. Moreover, it seeks to build infrastructure in different countries through its BRI project.

Its unwavering support for Gazans has also increased its diplomatic influence around the world.

The rise of BRICS and the fall of U.S. credibility

The inclusive policies of Russia and China have helped in increasing the popularity of the BRICS organization. The group is expanding at an unprecedented pace due to its egalitarian policies.

Despite having different ideologies, the member states are provided equal opportunity to voice their concerns. Moreover, the organization believes in the mutual growth of the member countries.

The BRICS-led New Development Bank (NDB) offers member nations loans on terms far more flexible than those imposed by traditional Western financial institutions.

Moreover, the organization does not coerce the member nations to take a unified stance over any regional or global issue, making it more inclusive.

Brazil is one of the founding members of the organization. It has always played a pivotal role in shaping its policies. In 2023, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva proposed a new trading currency for the BRICS nations, a move threatening US economic hegemony.

This proposal met severe criticism from the Western world. Brazil’s relations with the United States also suffered due to this proposal. The impact of Brazil’s leading role in BRICS are felt to this day.

After deporting thousands of Brazilian citizens, the Trump administration has announced a new 50 percent tariff on Brazilian imports in the United States after the recent BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro.

This move is intended to exert economic pressure on Brazil and set a precedent for other developing nations.

However, President Trump’s unholy and illegitimate tariff war on trade allies is destined to backfire. The United States has already lost its credibility as an ally. Today, it is only known for its violent and destructive policies.

People in third-world countries consider it an evil power due to its history of violence and destruction in the world during the past few decades. On the other hand, the popularity of the BRICS nations, especially Russia and China, has risen to an unprecedented level.

Many developing nations seek to gain BRICS membership to strengthen their economic and diplomatic clout.

The US move to impose high tariffs on Brazil will further push the country and other developing nations towards the BRICS countries. It will further erode Washington’s credibility as an ally, paving the way for a new multipolar world order.
